Your ULES in April
A recap of all that happened in the Faculty of Engineering during the month of April
Following a rigorous semester, an even more rigorous 2-week examination period, and 3 weeks of results tension, the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic session finally kicked off. The official resumption date was April 8th, 2024. But, as expected, very few students resumed and barely any activities were carried out since the Eid-al-Fitr celebrations were in earnest that week.
The next week still didn’t see much traction as most lecturers were still grading the last examinations. Only towards the end of the month did school activities begin to pick up, and I’m sure you’re excited to be back!
Let's talk about your results
After overnights, back-to-back exams, and a lot of idle time to second-guess your answers, the first semester examination results have started rolling in. For some of us, it’s back to the drawing board to draft yet another plan for an academic comeback, while it’s business as usual for others. Big ups to our faculty scholars. 🙌
However, the best part of the result season has to be the memes. You know? GPA doesn’t matter in heaven. Lecturers spin a wheel to decide your grades. I mean, what else can you do but lighten your mood and relieve the tension.
Our Honourable Excos
Over the break, ULES blog released a series of articles introducing you to the esteemed ULES excos. Trust me, it wasn’t easy tracking them down for their interviews, as they were working very hard to perform their duties and fulfil their manifestos.
All Executives shared their experiences in the school, biggest motivations, plans for the second semester, and more. Stay tuned for the President’s interview, I promise it's something special.
ARB 🤝 SchoolAide
Speaking of excos, The Academic Research Board, spearheaded by our Vice President, kicked off the ARB Mentorship Program. This initiative aims to connect students with seasoned scholars in the faculty who have cracked the code of academic excellence.
During the mentorship kick-off event, SchoolAide partnered with ARB to provide several students in the faculty with calculators, stationeries, solution manuals, and other learning essentials. So, keep an eye out for ARB activities this semester and try to participate in them.
PAADC is back!!!
After a very successful 7th edition, which saw two UNILAG teams in the finals, Africa’s largest undergraduate design competition is back. Led by our very own Nusaybah Fuad-Gafar, with Clinton Mekwunye as her deputy, the 8th edition of the Professor Ayodele Awojobi Design Competition promises to be the biggest and best yet.
PAADC is currently looking for volunteers to make the 8th edition a reality. So if you want to find a career path, focus on personal growth, or simply join a community working to make a meaningful impact, apply right now for one of the 13 available teams.
Looking Ahead
So, the semester has started out strong, and while a lot has happened so far, we still have so much more left in store for you. For example, the Final Year Week is coming up and the school hostels will begin their Hall Week celebrations. The coming months are filled with many exciting activities and programs to keep you engaged all through the semester. Stay in the loop and subscribe for the latest updates and news on the happenings in the Faculty of Engineering.
