As we conclude the first half of the session, it’s only right for us to get to know our excos personally and see what they’ve been up to so far and their plans for the rest of the session. In this article, we had a sit down with Mosturoh Adeogun, our faculty’s Assistant General Secretary.
This interview has been shortened and edited for clarity
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Mosturoh Adeogun, a 300 level Metallurgical and Materials Engineering student. I’m an Entrepreneur with a store (Mosmococo.stores), and a brand (Coco leathercraft). I am the last of 4 children. I’m Yoruba, a Muslim, and I hail from Ogun state. I’m also a Fashion enthusiast, and it’s one of a few ways I get to express myself .
What inspired you to pursue your role as a ULES Executive?
I wanted to put myself out there, assume a leadership position, and prove to myself that I’m capable of more than what I think I can do. I take joy in seeing people happy and I wanted to be part of the reason people are happy. I want to be a part of the best administration of ULES yet.
Who would you name as your role models or influencers?
To be honest, I don’t have a role model per se. I just tap from here and there. The ultimate goal is becoming a better version of myself everyday.
What are some experiences or milestones that have shaped your journey or that you're most proud of?
My mum became a single mum in 2016 (I was in JSS3) and this didn’t really hit me till I finished secondary school. For a last born, I got in the street pretty early and to be honest, I’m really grateful to Allah for it. It shaped my mentality all round and made me meet a lot of people, gave me this bit of street OT and I became independent quite early.
Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives within the faculty you are excited about?
Yes! The Engineering Entrepreneurs. I can wait to see entrepreneurs in the faculty get the visibility they deserve.
How do you balance school, your exco duties and your personal life?
There’s no fixed rules; different things you don’t expect pop up . But you have to do what you have to do. Overtime stress doesn’t get to me much but, of course, everyone has a threshold. However, I can handle stress for quite a long time. I take breaks in between, I get a lot of alone time, spoil myself or cool my head with Instagram reels.
What do you hope to accomplish this academic session?
I hope to get better grades, meet more people, and fulfill the promises made in my manifesto.
We all know how demanding engineering can be, has there been any moment where things were tough academically and how did you navigate that?
200 level was really tasking. The work load was a lot but my friends made it worthwhile. We hosted classes within ourselves and practiced, pending the time to writing our exams
What was your Welcome to the Faculty of Engineering moment?
Omo GEG was not GEGing ooo. I thought all it takes was just to be the best in Mathematics in Secondary school. I wish I knew better to be honest.
What are your roles as the Assistant General Secretary?
As the Assistant General Secretary, my role is primarily to support the General Secretary in his duties. This includes tasks organising meetings, managing correspondence, maintaining records, and assisting with administrative tasks.
How do you see your role as the AGS contributing to the overall vision of ULES?
By effectively managing administrative tasks, organising meetings, and maintaining records, I help create a well-structured and efficient environment. This allows the faculty to focus on their core objectives, such as providing quality education, conducting research, and fostering innovation. My contribution ensures smooth operations and help the faculty achieve its goals efficiently.
